With the help of the Band Boosters, band members raised funds to cover their normal operating expenses and successfully applied for two different grants to replace overly worn musical Instruments and marching band uniforms. The Mazza Foundation was able to assist the band with funding to replace major instruments, including timpani, marching drums, a vibraphone and several brass and wind instruments. Mr. Pens also was able to obtain software to choreograph his field shows more efficiently. The Pacifica Lion’s Club provided funds to replace the nearly 40 year- old marching uniforms. The Boosters also raised sufficient funds to purchase sound equipment to amplify their field shows.
The Terra Nova Band will have many opportunities to shine this season at four regional competitions, several home football games, Fog Fest parade on September 27th, and several concerts at the high school. Terra Nova also has a Jazz Band which will help raise funds to support the middle school band program at the annual Music Matters in Pacifica January Jazz fundraiser.
The 72 students in the marching band, including musicians and color guard, will give their first public field show performance with the new instruments and uniforms on September 5th during half time at Terra Nova’s first home football game of the season. They will perform Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall featuring music from Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky.
Their Winter Concert will be held on Dec 11, 2014 at 7 pm in the Terra Nova Theatre. All are invited to attend at no charge. Terra Nova Jazz Band Sampler Video – April 2014 Terra Nova High School Band
