Comedy Day

Thursday, June 29, 2023

Since 1981 nearly 1,000 globally acclaimed comedians have performed at Comedy Day for over half a million people free of charge, making it the world’s first and longest-running free outdoor comedy concert.

The event was originally hosted at the Golden Gate Park Music Concourse. In 1987, it moved to the Polo Fields to accommodate larger crowds, and for the past two decades, it has been held at Robin Williams Meadow.

Comedy Day also provides outreach programs, such as workshops that teach conflict resolution through humor, in Bay Area public schools. Comedy Day also arranges for comedians to perform for charitable organizations, benefits, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, and hospices throughout the Bay Area.

Comedy Day has no salaried administrative staff, relying solely on the efforts of volunteers. Their income is derived from donors, vendors, sponsors, and SF Grants for the Arts.
